My passion for photography began in the early 90’s when I began to study professional photography while still serving in the military. After learning the basics and honing my skills, I jumped into the world of wedding and portrait photography. I worked at perfecting my craft and growing my small business along side my military career. When the two life paths collided, something had to give and I decided to shelf my photographic aspirations while completing my time in the Canadian Forces.
After a short hiatus from the world of photography, I welcomed the new and developing world of digital photography and left the film behind. Without the pressures of trying to grow a business I was free to pursue my true passion, wildlife photography. I began to use every spare moment I had in the back country and even the local parks in an effort to learn not only about the creatures I wanted to photograph, but also the techniques of digital photography.
Over these many years I have transitioned through a variety of different equipment, learning and improving along the way. I have had the extreme pleasure of meeting and shooting with a host of extremely talented photographers which has allowed me to both learn and share photographic techniques as well as the knowledge of the wildlife we spend countless hours with.
A recent lifestyle change has brought my wife and I to the Cranbrook area of British Columbia. Nestled in the Rocky Mountain trench, surrounded by mountains, this area is a fantastic setting providing an abundance of wildlife and breathtaking scenery. I find no greater pleasure than spending countless hours waiting for the opportunity to create the perfect image. The world of wildlife and nature photography comes with long hours (or days) without a subject, missed opportunities, and often images that just don’t satisfy. When we are able to create the images that we are proud to hang on our walls, that’s what validates all of the effort. I hope to be able to share with you some of my favorite moments, that I hope you will find worthy enough to hang on your wall and enjoy as much as I do.
